Quick Start Guide

Get your first dual-angle swing recorded right now. You can explore the rest of the app later.

  1. Open TwoViewGolf & name the golfer Launch the app and type the golfer's name in Step 1 on the home screen. This tags every recording so you can find it later.
  2. Choose your setup Solo? Pick "Single Device" and skip to step 4. Two phones? Pick "Multi-Angle Recording" — setup controls appear right on the home screen.
  3. Pair your phones (multi-device only) Pick what this phone does (record, control, or both), name the camera angle, and tap "Connect to Other Device." Do the same on the other phone. They find each other automatically — works on Wi-Fi or without it.
  4. Set camera angles Position one phone for Face On and the other for Down the Line. Select the matching angle preset on each device so the app labels them correctly.
  5. Record Tap the red record button (or use your Apple Watch). On multi-device, the Director phone controls both cameras — a synchronized countdown starts the recording on all devices at the exact same frame.
  6. Review After you stop recording, videos appear in the session view. Tap a pair to see them side-by-side, perfectly synced. Swipe the timeline to scrub through your swing frame by frame.

Tip: For the best multi-angle experience, position phones 6–10 feet from the golfer at roughly hip height. Use small tripods or lean them against your golf bag.

Solo Recording

Record with a single device — no pairing required.

  1. Select "Single Device" on the home screen The app opens the camera immediately. No connection setup needed.
  2. Choose your camera angle Tap the angle selector (top-right) and pick Face On, Down the Line, Behind Target, Overhead, or Custom. This labels your recording for easy sorting later.
  3. Adjust recording settings (optional) Tap the gear icon to change frame rate (60/120/240fps), resolution, exposure lock, white balance lock, and stabilization. Default settings work great for most conditions.
  4. Frame the golfer & record Use the alignment grid (toggle via the grid icon) to center the golfer. Tap the red button to start, swing, then tap again to stop.

Tip: 240fps captures the most detail through impact, but uses more storage. Use 120fps for casual practice and save 240fps for focused sessions.

Multi-Device Sync Recording

Record from two or three angles simultaneously, perfectly frame-synced.

Device Roles

Each device in a session plays one of three roles:

📡

Director

Controls the session. Sends start/stop commands. Does not record video itself — purely a control device.

📷

Camera

Records video on the Director's command. Set and forget — just needs to be positioned and connected.

Connecting Devices

Everything happens right on the home screen — no separate setup flow needed. Do the same steps on each phone.

  1. Choose "Multi-Angle Recording" On each phone, select "Multi-Angle Recording" on the home screen. Setup controls appear inline.
  2. Pick what this phone does Choose a role: Controller + Camera (records and controls), Controller (just controls), or Second Camera (records an angle). Pick complementary roles on each phone.
  3. Name your camera angle Give each recording phone a name like "Face On" or "Down the Line" so you can tell them apart later.
  4. Tap "Connect to Other Device" Both phones start searching. They discover each other automatically — works on the same Wi-Fi network or without any Wi-Fi at all (peer-to-peer). A green status dot confirms the connection.

No Wi-Fi? No problem! Your phones connect directly using peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. Works anywhere — on the range, the course, or in the backyard.

Recording a Synced Session

  1. Position all devices and select camera angles Face On, Down the Line, etc. Each device should show a different angle.
  2. On the Director: tap Record A 3-second countdown syncs across all devices. Recording starts at the exact same frame on every camera.
  3. Swing, then tap Stop All cameras stop simultaneously. Videos begin transferring to the Director automatically.
  4. Review — playback is available almost immediately A compressed preview arrives in seconds for instant playback. The full-quality video transfers in the background — you can keep swinging while it finishes.

How sync works: TwoViewGolf uses a custom clock-sync protocol (similar to NTP) to align the internal clocks of all devices down to the millisecond. At 240fps, each frame is ~4ms — your videos are synced tighter than a single frame.

Heads up: If one device has Wi-Fi on but is not connected to a network, and cellular data is also active, iOS can occasionally get stuck connecting. If you see "Reconnecting..." for more than 10 seconds, turn off mobile data temporarily.

Apple Watch

A wireless remote control for recording from your wrist.

The TwoViewGolf Watch app lets you start, stop, and manage recordings without walking back to your phone. Ideal for range sessions where your phone is on a tripod.

Quick Watch Setup

  1. Install the Watch app Open the Watch app on your iPhone and install TwoViewGolf under "Available Apps."
  2. Open TwoViewGolf on both devices The Watch app automatically connects to your phone over Bluetooth. You'll see a "Ready" screen with a large record button.
  3. Tap to record, tap to stop Hit the record button on your wrist. A countdown starts on both devices. Tap again to stop. Use "New" for a fresh take or "Send" to transfer videos to the controller device.

Tip: The Watch shows a live recording timer and status updates. You can also tap "Exit" to close the camera view on the phone remotely.

Playback & Review

Side-by-side frame-synced playback with multiple layout options.

Viewing a Swing Pair

After recording, tap any swing pair to open the dual playback view. Both videos play in perfect sync — scrub the timeline and both videos move together, frame by frame.

AI Swing Analysis

Biomechanics feedback powered by computer vision and AI coaching.

Pro Feature: Free users get 3 AI analyses to try it out. Pro and Coach subscribers get unlimited analyses.

Pose Detection (Automatic)

When you open analysis on a recording, TwoViewGolf scans the video with Apple's Vision framework to detect 14 body joints in every frame. This builds a complete skeleton overlay you can toggle on and off.

Swing Phase Timeline

The app automatically identifies six phases of your swing:

1. Address

Setup position before the takeaway begins. Used as the baseline for all other measurements.

2. Backswing

Club moving away from the ball. Key metrics: hip turn, shoulder turn, spine angle maintenance.

3. Top of Backswing

Transition point. Check: lead arm extension, wrist hinge, hip-shoulder separation.

4. Downswing

From transition to impact. Key: sequence (hips lead), lag retention, swing plane.

5. Impact

The moment of truth. Check: shaft lean, hip clearance, head position, weight shift.

6. Follow-Through

After impact. Balanced finish indicates good deceleration and weight transfer.

Tap any phase on the colored timeline bar to jump to that exact frame.

Fault Detection

The app checks for seven common swing faults automatically:

Each fault shows a severity badge and tapping it seeks to the frame where it's most visible.

AI Coach (Sequential Fault Review)

For deeper analysis, tap "AI Coach." This sends key frames to our AI engine which reviews your swing across seven prioritized categories — from setup alignment through follow-through — one at a time. Each analysis includes:

Drawing & Annotation Tools

Draw lines, angles, circles, and shapes directly on the video frame.

Drawing tools are available on the free tier. Pause playback on any frame, then tap the pencil icon to enter drawing mode.

Available Tools

Angle Tool

Place three points to measure any joint angle. The angle readout updates as you adjust. Great for checking spine angle or wrist hinge.

Line Tool

Draw straight reference lines for target line, swing plane, or shaft angle at address. Drag endpoints to adjust.

Circle Tool

Highlight areas of interest — club face, ball position, grip. Pinch to resize.

Freehand & Shapes

Draw freehand or use rectangles to box areas. Change color and line thickness from the toolbar.

Tip: Drawings persist on the frame — when you export or share the swing, all annotations are included in the output.

Club Head Tracking

Visualize the club path through your entire swing arc.

Pro Feature: Club head tracking requires a Pro or Coach subscription.

TwoViewGolf uses frame-by-frame motion analysis to detect and track the club head throughout your swing. The result is a smooth arc overlay showing:

Best Practices for Club Tracking

For best results: Record at 240fps with a contrasting background. Avoid backlit conditions (golfer silhouetted against the sky). A clean background like a driving range mat or indoor bay gives the sharpest tracking.

Archiving & Exporting

Save, tag, organize, and share your swing library.

Archiving a Swing Pair

Troubleshooting

Quick fixes for the most common situations.

Devices won't connect

  1. Check that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both on Both radios must be enabled on every device. The app connects automatically whether your phones are on the same Wi-Fi or not.
  2. Try turning off mobile/cellular data A known iOS quirk can block peer connections when cellular data is active and Wi-Fi is on but not connected to a network. Toggle cellular off and retry.
  3. Tap "Try Again" or restart the app TwoViewGolf automatically recovers from most connection drops, but a manual retry clears all stale state. Close the app on both devices, reopen, and reconnect.
  4. Check permissions Go to Settings → TwoViewGolf and make sure "Local Network" permission is enabled. Without it, the app cannot discover other devices.

Video transfer is slow or stuck

The preview arrives first. A compressed proxy transfers in seconds for immediate playback. The full-quality video transfers in the background and swaps in automatically. Keep devices within ~30 feet of each other for fastest transfer.

"Reconnecting..." appears during recording

If a connection drops mid-session, TwoViewGolf automatically reconnects without losing your recordings. Videos are saved locally on each device and will transfer once the connection is restored. You can keep recording during a brief drop.

Analysis says "operation could not be completed"

  1. Try re-opening the swing pair If you moved or renamed files, the app may have a stale file reference. Closing and reopening the pair refreshes the file paths.
  2. Re-archive the pair If the video was recorded on another device and transferred, archiving it again ensures the file URL is up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many devices can I connect at once?
Up to three: one Director (or Camera Director) and two Cameras. For most users, a two-device setup with Camera Director + Camera gives you the classic Face On / Down the Line pair.
Do the devices need internet?
No. Devices connect directly over peer-to-peer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. No internet, cellular signal, or Wi-Fi network is required. You can use TwoViewGolf on the range, the course, or indoors with no connectivity at all.
How accurate is the multi-device sync?
Sub-frame at 240fps. The app uses a custom clock synchronization protocol to align device clocks to within ~1ms. At 240fps each frame is 4.17ms, so your videos are synced tighter than a single frame.
Can I use an iPad?
Yes. Any iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later works. Mix and match freely — an iPad makes a great Director device for reviewing with a larger screen.
What Apple Watch models are supported?
Any Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later. The Watch app provides remote start/stop/new/send buttons — no special sensors required. See the Watch Guide for details.
How much storage does a session use?
A 10-second clip at 240fps / 1080p uses about 40–60MB per camera. A typical practice session with 20 swings from 2 angles is roughly 2–3GB. Archived pairs are compressed and smaller.
Can I open .swing files on Windows?
Yes. The TwoViewGolf Windows Viewer (Electron app) opens .swing packages exported from the iOS app, with full playback, skeleton overlay, and annotation support.
What happens if I cancel my Pro subscription?
You keep access to all recordings and archived pairs. You lose access to Pro-only features (advanced layouts, export, unlimited analysis, club tracking) but can still view everything in side-by-side layout with drawing tools.
